Solvent Extraction

The method by which volatile oils are separated from the plant using solvents which can then be removed by evaporation.

This process is also used for some plant extracts to process the active ingredients. For example some herbs yield up many of their therapeutic qualities to water and alcohol, for use in pharmaceuticals.
